Open gardens weekend to celebrate 30 years of local charity
This weekend 11 private gardens in the village of West Malvern will be open to the public to celebrate Malvern Special Families charity’s 30th year. The showcase of gardens will give people the chance to explore a wide variety of picturesque gardens, many of which have unique and stunning views over the Malvern Hills.
Ruth Pole, organiser of the West Malvern Open Gardens charity event was one of the first parents to be supported by Malvern Special Families: “Malvern Special Families made a massive difference to our family life when our son was young and we are glad to have this opportunity to support other families in similar circumstances.”
Malvern Special Families provides clubs and play schemes for children and young people with disabilities aged between 5 and 19, in ‘out of school’ hours in Malvern and in Worcester. The play schemes enable children and young people to have fun, socialise and develop new skills and confidence, whilst providing a short break for the whole family.
The pretty gardens in the village of West Malvern will be open 2pm – 6pm on Sat 15th July and 2pm – 6pm on Sun 16th July. With tea, cake and plant sales at some gardens. All money raised from the event will go to Malvern Special Families charity.
As the event is expected to be popular, visitors are requested they park at the West of England Quarry Car Park WR14 4DG, where they can collect a free map for the event. At the first garden you visit please buy a passport for £5 per adult (under 16’s free) giving access to all gardens on both days.
Malvern Special Families Chairperson Helen Attree is encouraging the local community to come along and support the event: “We are proud to be celebrating 30 years of supporting local families, providing safe and engaging social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities. We would like to invite everyone in the local community to help celebrate our 30th year by coming along to this fantastic open gardens fundraiser.”
