Fundraisers face their fears in Forest Warrior challenge

A group of community fundraisers have tackled an extreme 12km mud and obstacle course for a local charity. The team took part in Forest Warrior in the Forest of Dean on Sunday for Malvern Special Families.

The fundraisers found themselves faced with a series of gruelling obstacles as part of the event. The group had to climb over fallen trees, run through thick mud and go over and under obstacles, crawl up a waterfall and scale a giant inflatable “the iceberg”, before plunging into an icy river and swimming across it.

Rebecca Lewis-Knight one of the fundraising team said: “I recently moved to the area and I wanted to volunteer for a local charity in support of children and young people with disabilities.

I have really enjoyed meeting new people through Malvern Special Families and it has helped me to feel part of the local community. I absolutely loved the Forest Warrior event and have been overwhelmed with the support and donations. I really enjoyed wallowing in the mud and trying not to lose my trainers. There was such a great atmosphere for all involved and we giggled all the way round the course!”

Near the end of the course the group had to run the final 2kms through mud and water, then tackle a number of challenging obstacles using monkey bars, scramble nets, a zip wire and the final hurdle “the wall”.

Cassie Zoro, Community Fundraiser said: “The fundraising team were fantastic and we had so much fun doing Forest Warrior. We all helped each other out along the course and over obstacles like fallen trees and high walls, waded through waist high gloopy mud which we kept getting stuck in and then took on the final onslaught of the final hurdles like scramble nets, monkey bars and more.

It was a really tough challenge but a fantastic experience. We have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve had – thanks to everyone who has donated and taken part. We look set to raise over £1500 for Malvern Special Families charity which is fantastic news for the charity.”
